Nomad is a project for the restoration of Vibrac Castle, located in Charente, France. The proposal consists of modular structures arranged along a loop that connects the three islands of Vibrac. These modules can be repositioned based on client needs or weather conditions.
The castle wall is interpreted as a protective loop that connects activities. The proposal consists of a site ring that builds on the heritage of the site and connects the new development and qualities of the site.
Structural, installation, and transportation strategies, and different assembly methods are explored for each module depending on specific requirements. There are six module types: Discover, Observe, Gather, Multi-use, Relax, and Living.
Each pavilion is formed by combining different modules, which can serve either open or enclosed programs. The foundation of most modules is designed to float in response to rising water levels. For the flexible pathways, we explore structures that can adapt to varying terrain elevations.
