An intervention on an island requires an understanding of various factors, both related to the island itself and its surrounding areas. Among these, isolation plays a crucial role, as it directly impacts any type of intervention. Its connection to other places is fundamental. Also, in some cases, isolation may result in an ecosystem that differs from that of the mainland.
San Lorenzo Island has served different roles over time, adapting to the needs of coastal cities and influencing the region more broadly. It is a place where many significant events in our country’s history have taken place.
Since the beginning of the last century, San Lorenzo has been the subject of numerous proposals to accommodate diverse institutional needs, including hotels, ports, airports, museums, and more. However, how well do these projects align with their surroundings? Do they address an urban need? Do they engage with the island’s landscape? Is their architecture suitable for this unique environment?
